Restumping is the process of replacing or repairing the stumps (also known as piers or posts) that support a home’s subfloor structure. Over time, timber stumps can rot, shift, or deteriorate, and even older concrete or steel stumps can move due to soil changes or ground movement. When this happens, the home may become uneven or unstable.

Common signs you may need restumping include sloping floors, cracks in walls, sticking doors and windows, or gaps around frames and skirting boards.

The restumping process involves carefully supporting the house, removing the damaged or failing stumps, and installing new, level, and durable supports — typically made from treated timber, concrete, or steel. The home is then re-leveled to restore proper alignment and structural stability.

Restumping not only improves the safety and strength of your home but also helps prevent further structural damage, ensuring it remains solid, secure, and level for years to come.
